Audition to be a 2016 Feature Twirler!

Are you interested in becoming a feature twirler with the Miami University Marching Band for the 2016 season? The audition form is now available!

This year’s auditions will all be conducted online. To audition, click on the link below to complete the questionnaire. Below are the questions that you should be prepared to answer:

  • How many years have you been twirling?
  • What groups have you twirled with?
  • Please outline your competitive experience (on a team, individually, awards won, etc).
  • Please outline your experience (if any) in teaching and/or designing your own routines?
  • Why do you want to be a twirler for Miami University?

At the end of the form, you will be prompted to upload an audition video or provide a link to your video (hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). The video should show a baton performance that includes a variety of skills and tricks for 1, 2, and 3 batons selected from the list below. The video should be at least 2 minutes long. You may either provide a URL to the video (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) or attach a video file.

  • Vertical 3 Spin- Catch R, L, and backhand
  • Horizontal 3 Spin
  • Vertical High Toss One Spin Illusion
  • Horizontal High Toss Illusion
  • High Toss Cartwheel/Walkover/Aerial
  • Variety of Contact Material
  • Long arm rolls
  • Back neck rolls
  • Fujimis/Continuous Elbow Rolls

Dance Skills

  • Split leaps- R and L
  • Tour jete
  • Layback
  • Excellent quality of performance

Two Baton Tricks

  • Showers
  • High-low tosses
  • Dual pattern tosses
  • Split toss tricks

Three Baton Tricks

  • Juggles/Crescents/Pendulums
  • Vertical Thumbtoss Box
  • Horizontal Box
